The Lion Ranger program completed it first full year in operation in 2018! The year was full of challenges and achievements – we learned a ton! Human-lion conflict continues to be a pressing issue on communal land in northwest Namibia, but stakeholders have banded-together around the common cause of ensuring that communities and lions can coexist. For 2019 we anticipate upscaling the program and further reaching out to communal residents to ensure they are informed about lion movements, engaged in decision-making, and an integral part of management moving forward. It takes communities working together to ensure a future for people and wildlife on communal land.
